Weaving

Weaving

Negative

Overview

Weaving does two things that seem unrelated until you meet it in a corridor. Whatever carries it scatters cobweb around the point where it dies, and while it is active the carrier moves through cobweb at normal speed instead of being caught in it. Put those together in an ominous trial chamber and the picture is clear: you kill a weaving mob, the floor fills with web, and the next mob walks through that web at full pace while you are stuck in the middle of it. It is the most tactically nasty of the four ominous effects for exactly that reason, because it changes the terrain rather than hitting you. Shears are the counter and they are cheap — two iron ingots — and worth a hotbar slot in any ominous run. Breaking web with a sword works too but ruins durability. The webs left behind are ordinary cobweb, so they can be collected with shears and reused, which makes a weaving mob a small free resource if you are patient. Fight these in an open room where you can back away from the web field instead of a doorway where it fills your only exit.

Terrain denial — the cobweb left behind slows anything without the effect, which is a hazard when mobs cause it and a free supply of web when you clear it up.

Spawns cobwebs where you die and lets you move faster through cobwebs while active.

As a status effect, Weaving counts as harmful. No potion produces it, so it lasts however long the source keeps applying it.

While it is on you, the top-right of the inventory shows the icon and the time left, and you give off particles in the effect's colour, dimmer when the source is ambient. No beacon carries it, so each dose is finite.

How to get it

Ominous trial spawners give it to the mobs they produce, which requires Trial Omen in a chamber. Outside one, /effect give @s minecraft:weaving 20 0 applies 20 seconds of it for testing.

Tips

  • Keep shears in the hotbar for an ominous run; 2 iron ingots buys you a way out of the web field.
  • Fight weaving mobs in open rooms, never in doorways, or the web fills the only route you have.
  • Cobweb collected with shears is reusable, so a weaving mob effectively drops building material as well as loot.
  • Mobs still carrying the effect ignore the web you are stuck in, which is what makes the combination dangerous.

Version notes

Added in Java 1.21 as one of the ominous trial chamber effects; the cobwebs it leaves are ordinary cobweb blocks.

What each level does

Levels are shown one-based in the inventory and zero-based in commands, so Weaving II is written amplifier 1. Per level:

Survival stops at I; commands do not, and will accept an amplifier up to 255.

Idying scatters cobweb around you, and you move through cobweb at normal speed

Properties

No potion produces Weaving. Its sources are Ominous trial spawner mobs, and its duration is whatever they give it. A bucket of milk removes it, at the cost of every other effect you have running.
