Overview
Raid Omen is the short bridge between drinking an ominous bottle and fighting for your village, and it exists so that raids start where you decided they would. When a player carrying Bad Omen crosses into a village, the omen converts to Raid Omen, the position is recorded, and after a brief delay the first wave spawns at that spot rather than wherever you happen to be standing when the counter finishes. That small change fixed the old problem of a raid appearing on top of a player who had walked on to a mountainside. Practically it gives you a window. The moment the effect appears, you know exactly where the pillagers will arrive, and you have seconds to get to your prepared position — the walled courtyard, the arrow slits, the iron golem pen — rather than fighting the first wave among the crop fields. Players who farm raids build a killing box and take care to trigger the conversion inside it. The effect does nothing else at all: no stat change, no mob attraction, no visual beyond the icon and the countdown. It is a timer with a location attached.

As a status effect, Raid Omen counts as harmful. No potion produces it, so it lasts however long the source keeps applying it.
You will see it as an inventory icon in the top-right corner with a countdown, plus a trail of particles in the effect's colour — faint rather than absent when a beacon or a conduit applied it. There is no beacon version, so it always runs out.
How to get it
Carry Bad Omen into a village. The conversion happens automatically at the village boundary and the raid begins roughly 30 seconds later at the recorded position, at a wave count matching the ominous bottle's level from I to V.
Tips
- Trigger the conversion standing exactly where you want wave one to appear — the position is locked when the omen converts.
- The 30-second gap is your set-up time: drink potions, ready the crossbow, and close the gate now rather than later.
- Iron golems fight for you, so a raid box with 3 or 4 golems already inside handles the early waves alone.
- A mob-proof base design doubles as a raid box with very little modification.
Version notes
Raid Omen was added in Java 1.21 as the intermediate step between Bad Omen and a raid; before that, Bad Omen started the raid directly on entering a village.
What each level does
Levels are shown one-based in the inventory and zero-based in commands, so Raid Omen II is written amplifier 1. Per level:
Survival stops at V; commands do not, and will accept an amplifier up to 255.
