Overview

An Oak Chest Boat is a boat with 27 storage slots bolted on, and it solves the specific problem of an ocean expedition that finds more loot than it can carry. Everything a normal boat does it does identically — the same 8 blocks per second on water, the same absurd speed on blue ice, the same fall-damage immunity — but it seats only one, because the chest takes the passenger seat. Open the chest by crouching and using the boat, or by using it from behind; the contents survive the boat being broken, dropping as items on the surface rather than being lost. That makes a chest boat the cheapest mobile base for a shipwreck-and-ruins tour, an ocean monument raid, or a long river journey where you want a second shulker box's worth of space without spending shulker shells. Crafting is a boat plus a chest, so upgrading a boat you already own costs eight planks. Its one real weakness is that you cannot ferry a villager in it, which is exactly the job the plain boat keeps for itself.

Carrying loot across water on an exploration trip — shipwreck and ocean ruin raids especially — without a base run, and acting as a floating storage point you can moor and come back to.

About the oak set

Oak is the wood every player meets first, and the whole set behaves the same way: planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors, trapdoors, signs, buttons and pressure plates share one hardness of 2, one blast resistance of 3, and one rule — an axe is faster but never required, and every piece drops itself. What separates the woods is colour and, for two of them, availability: oak and birch generate in the starting biomes, while cherry, mangrove and pale oak need a specific biome to be found at all. Because the recipes are identical across the set, anything you learn here transfers: four planks make a crafting table, six make a door, six make three trapdoors. The one place they differ is fuel — every wooden item burns in a furnace for 15 seconds, and a set of stairs is worth exactly as much fuel as the planks it was made from, so smelting with leftover stairs is never wasteful.

Tips

Crouch and use the boat to open its chest without dismounting, which matters when a drowned is closing in.
Contents drop as items if the boat is destroyed, so a chest boat sunk by a guardian is recoverable if you are quick.
It seats only you — carry a plain boat as well if a villager is coming home on the same trip.
Park it on ice at a base entrance: a chest boat on blue ice is a storage container and an express lane at once.
