Overview
A Firework Rocket is fuel for flight and, loaded into a crossbow, one of the hardest-hitting weapons a survival player can carry. While gliding with Elytra, using a rocket gives a burst of thrust that pushes you to roughly 30 blocks per second and sustains altitude — the entire reason long-distance Elytra travel works. Duration is set at crafting time by how much gunpowder you use: one gunpowder gives the shortest burst, three the longest, and for flight the three-gunpowder version is the efficient choice because it wastes fewer slots per thousand blocks. Add a Firework Star and the rocket explodes at the end of its flight, which is pure decoration in the sky and serious damage when fired from a crossbow — roughly 6 damage per star at point-blank range, so about 18 from a three-star rocket. Rockets crafted without a star never explode and never hurt you, which is why flight rockets should always be plain. Three rockets per craft from a single gunpowder and paper makes them cheap once a creeper farm exists. Keep flight rockets and combat rockets in separate slots so a mis-click does not detonate one in your face while gliding.

How to get it
Craft 3 from 1 Gunpowder and 1 Paper; use 2 or 3 gunpowder for longer flight duration. A creeper farm producing 1 stack of gunpowder an hour keeps an Elytra flyer supplied indefinitely.
Tips
- Use plain rockets for flying: a rocket with a star explodes and damages you if you are still next to it.
- Three gunpowder gives the longest flight duration, which means fewer rockets carried per thousand blocks travelled.
- A dispenser fires rockets straight up, which makes an automatic firework display for a base or a server event.
- Crossbow rocket damage scales with the number of stars — a 3-star rocket is the strongest single hit available.
