Wind Burst

Wind Burst

Max 3Treasure only

Overview

Land a mace smash attack with Wind Burst and the impact throws you back into the air, which means the fall you just spent is immediately available again. That single mechanic turns the mace from a weapon with one enormous opening hit into a chain: drop, smash, rebound, smash again, each hit carrying its own fall bonus. Against a boss with a large health pool it is the highest sustained damage in the game, and it looks as ridiculous as it sounds. It also doubles as movement — a smash on any target sends you upward, which is a way out of a crowd as much as it is a way into one. The enchantment is unusually hard to get, and deliberately so. No enchanting table offers it, no librarian sells it, and it appears only in ominous vault loot inside a trial chamber — which means running a chamber with Trial Omen active and enough Ominous Trial Keys to open the vaults. It does not conflict with Density or Breach, so a mace can carry Wind Burst plus whichever of those two you chose, and that pairing is the finished weapon.

Chaining mace smash attacks by rebounding you into the air after every hit, which adds up to the highest sustained melee damage available to a player against a boss.

Launches you back into the air after a mace smash attack, letting you chain one drop attack into the next. It stacks freely with Density or Breach — those two conflict with each other, not with Wind Burst.

The highest level of Wind Burst is III. It is treasure-only, which takes the enchanting table out of the picture: loot chests, fishing and trades are the sources.

At weight 2 it is still off the enchanting table entirely — the weight applies to the book turning up in loot, in a catch or at a lectern.

How to get it

Ominous vault loot in trial chambers only — 1 source. No table, no villager and no ordinary vault provides it. Level III is the maximum, and 2 level II books combine on an anvil if two chamber runs are kind to you.

Tips

Version notes

Added in Java 1.21 with the Mace and the trial chambers; ominous vaults are the only source, so it cannot be rolled at a table or bought from a villager.

What each level does

The table below is the per-level effect. Going from I to III is where the real difference is, and an anvil turns two II books into a III.

Wind Burst III gives the strongest rebound.

I50% chance to bounce you upward after a smash attack
II75% chance to bounce you upward after a smash attack
III100% chance to bounce you upward after a smash attack

No table offers it, whatever the bookshelf count, and no trade exists for it: loot chests and fishing only.

How to get it

Ominous vault loot in trial chambers.

Treasure enchantments skip the table entirely, which leaves loot chests, fishing with Luck of the Sea and raid drops.

Command

With cheats on, the first command applies Wind Burst III to whatever you are holding; the second hands you an item that already has it. Since 1.20.5 the item form uses the "enchantments" component rather than the old NBT tag.

Apply it

/enchant @s minecraft:wind_burst 3

Give an enchanted item

/give @s mace[enchantments={levels:{"minecraft:wind_burst":3}}]
