Overview
Tinted glass is the only block in Minecraft that you can see through but light cannot pass through. Ordinary glass is transparent to both vision and light; tinted glass blocks light completely, exactly like stone, while remaining visually clear. That combination does things nothing else can. A tinted glass roof over a mob farm keeps the spawning floor at light level 0 while letting you watch it work. A tinted glass window between a lit room and a dark one keeps the dark room dark. A tinted glass block over a mushroom farm stops the mushrooms burning off without hiding them. It is also, unusually for glass, collectable without Silk Touch: broken with any tool it drops itself rather than shattering, which makes it far less frustrating to build with than ordinary glass. The recipe is one glass block surrounded by four amethyst shards for two tinted glass, so it costs a geode trip, but amethyst is renewable and one geode supplies a great deal of it. It is not waterloggable and it does not connect into panes, so it is used as full blocks only. For a mob farm ceiling or a dark room window, nothing else in the game does the job at all, which is why a geode trip is usually worth making specifically for it.

How to get it
Craft 2 tinted glass from 1 glass block and 4 amethyst shards. Shards come 4 at a time from fully grown amethyst clusters in geodes, which generate between Y -58 and Y 30 and regrow indefinitely.
