Overview
An ochre froglight is a warm yellow-orange light block at level 15, and the way you obtain it is unlike anything else in Minecraft: a frog eats a small magma cube and produces one. Which of the three froglights you get depends entirely on the frog's variant rather than the cube — the temperate frog, which is orange and grows from tadpoles raised in a temperate biome such as a swamp or plains, produces ochre. Warm frogs give pearlescent and cold frogs give verdant, so collecting all three colours means raising tadpoles in three different climates and carrying them there in a bucket. The mechanic makes froglights fully renewable but genuinely fiddly, which is why they remain one of the more prestigious decorative blocks in a build. As a material they are a full solid block with a striated organic texture and maximum brightness, which puts them in a category of their own — glowstone and shroomlight are the only comparable light-15 full blocks, and neither has this colour. They can be pushed by pistons and are unaffected by water.
Maximum-brightness decorative lighting in a warm yellow that no other block in the game provides, and a fully renewable light source once a frog-and-magma-cube farm is running in the Nether.
Ochre Froglight counts as a light-emitting block in Minecraft 1.21.4. It is gathered by mining rather than crafted. With a hardness of 0.3 it gives way immediately under almost any tool.
Any tool works, and so do bare hands. Mining it returns the block itself, so it is safe to relocate. At light level 15 it lights a room as well as a torch does.
With a blast resistance of only 0.3 it will not survive an explosion. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot. No recipe takes it as an ingredient.
How to get it
Let a temperate frog eat a small magma cube; each cube eaten produces 1 froglight. Raise tadpoles caught in a bucket in a temperate biome to get temperate frogs, which are the orange variant.
Tips
- The frog's variant decides the colour, not the magma cube — temperate frogs always give ochre.
- Carry tadpoles in a bucket to the biome whose frog variant you want; they take the biome they grow up in.
- Only small magma cubes work, so bring large ones down to size before letting the frogs at them.
- It gives light level 15, the same as glowstone, in a colour and texture nothing else in the game matches.

Frogs, tadpoles and all 3 froglights were added in 1.19 (The Wild Update) and are unchanged in 1.21.4.
