Exposed Copper Grate counts as a building block in Minecraft 1.21.4. Exposed Copper Grate has a crafting recipe, so it is renewable as long as you can source its ingredients. At a hardness of 3 it takes a moment to break but never slows a build down.

It needs at least a stone pickaxe to drop anything; a weaker tool destroys it for nothing. Mining it returns the block itself, so it is safe to relocate. It is transparent, which matters when you are managing light levels.

It stacks to 64. You make it with Exposed Copper. You can also cut it from Exposed Copper on a stonecutter.

Its only crafting use is Waxed Exposed Copper Grate.

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 3, Exposed Copper Grate takes 15 seconds to punch out and 0.5 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

You are looking at 0.75 seconds on iron and 0.6 on diamond — the iron step is where the time actually falls.

The block still breaks with a weaker tool, but below stone it yields nothing at all — the time is spent and the drop is lost, which is the single most common way players waste a vein.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 3.3 times faster than an unenchanted one.

Properties

Exposed Copper Grate has a blast resistance of 6, so a nearby explosion will usually destroy it. It lets light through and emits no light of its own. A single slot takes 64, the usual full stack. A pickaxe is fastest here; any other class mines it at bare-hand speed, because the bonus only applies to the class the block is tagged for.
