Dead Fire Coral Block — Minecraft block

Overview

In Minecraft 1.21.4, Dead Fire Coral Block is an underwater block. It has no crafting recipe — you collect it by mining it where it generates. Hardness 1.5 puts it in the middle of the pack for mining speed.

Mine it with a wooden pickaxe or better, or you get no drop at all. Broken correctly, it drops itself. Sixty-four fit in one inventory slot.

No recipe takes it as an ingredient.

How long it takes to break

Dead Fire Coral Block has a hardness of 1.5. By hand that is 7.5 seconds per block; with the correct tool at netherite tier it is 0.25 seconds.

You are looking at 0.4 seconds on iron and 0.3 on diamond — the diamond step is where the time actually falls.

It will break below wooden, and you will get nothing for it. That combination of time spent and drop lost is the classic mining mistake.

Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 2.5 times faster than the plain tool.

Properties

Blast resistance on Dead Fire Coral Block is 6, so an explosion nearby will usually take it out. It stops light entirely and gives off no light. A single slot takes 64, the usual full stack. Being renewable, it can be produced indefinitely in one world. The fastest tool for it is a pickaxe; any other kind of tool mines it no faster than a bare hand does, because the speed bonus only applies to the tool class the block is tagged for.
