Overview

Chiseled Tuff is one of the 3 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Tuff is the same shape in a different material.

Chiseled Tuff is a stone-family block in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.4. A crafting table turns its ingredients into Chiseled Tuff. Its hardness of 1.5 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.

Anything below a wooden pickaxe breaks it without leaving a drop. It drops as the same block you mined. It stacks to 64.

You make it with Tuff Slab. You can also cut it from Tuff on a stonecutter. It is not used in any crafting recipe.

How long it takes to break

At a hardness of 1.5, Chiseled Tuff takes 7.5 seconds to punch out and 0.25 seconds with a netherite-tier tool of the correct class.

Iron takes 0.4 seconds against diamond's 0.3, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to diamond.

Below wooden the block breaks and simply vanishes. Bring the right tier or leave it in the ground.

Each Efficiency level adds level² + 1 to the tool's speed, so a level V tool clears this about 2.5 times faster than an unenchanted one.

Properties

Blast resistance on Chiseled Tuff is 6, so an explosion nearby will usually take it out. It stops light entirely and gives off no light. Stack size is 64 — the standard full stack. The block is tagged for pickaxes, and only that class gets the speed bonus; everything else mines at bare-hand rate.
