Overview
Birch Wall Hanging Sign is one of the 12 variants of this shape in the game. What changes between them is the material, and with it the hardness, the drops, the durability and the recipe — so every figure on this page is this variant's own. Oak Wall Hanging Sign is the same shape in a different material.
Minecraft classifies Birch Wall Hanging Sign as a functional block. This is a Creative-mode block; Survival players will never hold one. Its hardness of 1 makes it a normal, unhurried block to mine.
You can break it by hand without losing the drop. Breaking it produces Birch Hanging Sign. Light passes through it, so it will not darken the space behind it.
It offers almost no protection from explosions (1 blast resistance). No recipe takes it as an ingredient.
About the birch set
How long it takes to break
Birch Wall Hanging Sign sits at hardness 1: 1.5 seconds per block with your fists, 0.2 with the correct netherite tool.
Iron takes 0.25 seconds against diamond's 0.2, so the upgrade worth making for this block is the one to iron.
No particular tool tier is required: any tool, or none at all, still yields the drop, so the table below is about speed rather than about whether you get anything.
Efficiency contributes its level squared plus one to tool speed, which makes Efficiency V roughly 4 times faster than the plain tool.
| Tool | No enchantment | Efficiency III | Efficiency V |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand | 1.5 s | 1.5 s | 1.5 s |
| Wooden | 0.75 s | 0.15 s | 0.1 s |
| Stone | 0.4 s | 0.15 s | instant |
| Iron | 0.25 s | 0.1 s | instant |
| Diamond | 0.2 s | 0.1 s | instant |
| Netherite | 0.2 s | 0.1 s | instant |
| Golden | 0.15 s | 0.1 s | instant |
Properties
Birch Wall Hanging Sign has a blast resistance of 1, so any explosion nearby destroys it. It lets light through and emits no light of its own. The block is tagged for axes, and only that class gets the speed bonus; everything else mines at bare-hand rate. Broken normally it drops Birch Hanging Sign rather than itself; Silk Touch is what returns the block, and Fortune raises the ordinary drop instead. As furnace fuel it burns for 15 seconds — one and a half smelting operations.
